Klaus Obermaier

Klaus Obermaier, who studied music at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and also studied visual arts, has developed into an expert for interactive and cross-media art as well as electronic music. He created and directed the interactive dance work APPARITION, which was premiered at the Ars Electronica Festival 2004 and is touring worldwide. In 2006 he staged and choreographed the highly acclaimed version of LE SACRE DU PRINTEMPS for the opening of the Bruckner Fest, including interactive dance and orchestra as well as stereoscopic indoor and outdoor production for approximately 10,000 people. His intermedia works “jobOpera” and “actOpera” were presented in 1998 and 2000 as the “Linzer Klangwolke” one of Europe’s biggest annual
outdoor multi-media events for approx. 70.000 people.

Apart from presenting his original works and compositions at international festivals and on tours in many parts of the world, he has played with the ENSEMBLE MODERN, one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music, and composed music for such disparate musicians as the KRONOS QUARTET, ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO, DEUTSCHE KAMMERPHILHARMONIE, BALANESCU QUARTET … He worked with dancers and choreographers like Chris Haring, Robert Tannion (DV8), Desiree Kongerod (S.O.A.P.), Tanz*Hotel and members of the NEDERLANDS DANS THEATER.

His media installations are shown at galleries and festivals in Europe and USA. He gives lectures at international universities and institutions. Since 2006 he is visiting professor at the University IUAV of Venice teaching new media in dance, music and theatre performances.
